Lyra
One of our most critical rescues, Lyra survived severe neglect and now receives lifelong specialist sanctuary care.

Before
One of the worst cases we have ever rescued, Lyra was surrendered by her owner when a passerby saw her condition and forced the owner to call us. Lyra came to us in a collapsed state, unconscious and barely breathing. Her body temperature was low and her glucose levels did not register on the machine when she was rushed in.
The first six to twelve hours were spent warming her and keeping her breathing. When she finally woke, we found that she could not walk. After a blood transfusion, soup and small hand-fed meals ten times a day, Lyra stood for the first time about six days after rescue.
After
Despite all our work, Lyra’s body had been so weakened that she was left with permanent damage, including a partially collapsed trachea, constant skin issues and a weak immune system.
Once healthier, she was transferred to The Little Island Sanctuary, where she lives with other rescue friends under the watchful eye of our founder, who manages her multiple medical issues daily.
